MEETING SUPPLIER EXPECTATIONS

Responsible Minerals

Bentech is dedicated to working with our suppliers to help establish traceability of Conflict Minerals and assure that our products and materials are responsibly sourced. When confronted with non-compliant sources of supply, we look to establish new sources where the origin of Conflict Minerals in those products cannot be ascertained. All of these activities ensure that Responsible Minerals regulations are followed through.

We look forward to expanding our responsible sourcing programmes over time. We proactively review the responsible sourcing landscape and apply due diligence principles and the precautionary principle to ensure we act accordingly. We continue to monitor our supply chains to maintain our responsible sourcing standards to include other minerals or materials that may require similar traceability and assurance mechanisms in the future.

Responsible Minerals Background

Certain high-risk minerals sourced from regions of the world with ongoing conflict carry a risk of funding organisations that are involved in illegal or unethical activities including child labour, harsh working conditions, environmental destruction and corruption.

A growing awareness of the abuses committed in these areas of conflict has prompted investigation into any supply chain tainted by these atrocities. The purpose is to report any abuses, and through disclosure, halt the sourcing of designated minerals via supply chains implicated in conflict zones.

In the USA, various legislative efforts culminated on July 21, 2010, when the U.S. Government signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act), which included a provision that requires U.S. publicly traded manufacturing companies to conduct due diligence into their supply chains and disclose any products containing “Conflict Minerals” which would include tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (known as 3TG) originating from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or adjoining countries, where atrocities have been documented during mining, refining and transportation.
